Victorian Trade Card - FREEMAN' FACE POWDER - W. D. Freeman, Cincinnati
Pretty card featuring a little girl in the snow who appears to be reaching down to pick up a dead bird. Text on the front reads: "Freeman's FACE POWDER Is Harmless". In the lower left corner it's marked "BUFFORD" and in the lower right is a number that appears to be "786" (or perhaps "706").
The back touts the virtues of Freeman's Medicated Face Powder, although stating right up front that: "It is not claimed that its use will render the plain supremely beautiful, ..."! The back also carries a blue rubber stamp from "E. STEINBACHER DRUGGIST".
Size: approx. 4-1/4" x 2-7/8"
Date: Not dated.
Lithographer: Bufford
Condition: Fair, I'd say. This card is somewhat soiled and stained and the tip of the upper right corner is folded over. The back has the name "Harry" written in ink and also has a patch of surface paper loss at the lower right corner. (Please see scans.)
