Description: Here's a nice vintage standard-sized matchbook cover from the Berghoff Restaurant, located at the corner of State and Adams in downtown Chicago, Illinois, where it had been since 1898. The back of cover has a drawing of the Berghoff's building. The phone number is given in the old style as "HArrison 7-3170".
The inside also has a somewhat different drawing of the building, with a horse and carriage out front.
Produced by Lion Match Co., Inc., Chicago, Ill.
Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1.5" (closed)
Date: Not dated, but that old-style phone number probably puts it in the 1950s (or perhaps early 1960s)
Condition: Good, I'd say. The cover is only lightly soiled and the striker strip appears to show only minimal use. However, the striker strip area has just a bit of damage from the removal of the staple that held the matches. There's also an additional pinhole which passes through the striker strip and both sides of the cover. (Please see scans.)
