SERIES: Satire

This is one of 100 cards featuring humorous cartoons and advertising the "Ariosa" brand of coffee that Arbuckles' issued in the late 1880s. All the illustrations were originally published in either Puck, Judge, or Texas Siftings, three of the more popular satirical periodicals of the day. Most typically aimed their derision at blacks, the Irish, or country "rubes". This one is taken from an 1887 Judge cartoon and features a little girl holding a doll, her mother who's sewing, and a cat trying to reach a spool of thread.

The back carries Arbuckles' familiar "Four Points" sales pitch.

SIZE: 3" x 5"

DATE: Undated (but probably 1888 or 1889)

LITHOGRAPHER: Not identified

CONDITION: Very fine, I'd say. The card is generally only lightly soiled but does have a faintly visible vertical band of discoloration (~ 1/8") along the left edge. The edges and corners are still fairly sharp. (Please see scans.)

MULTIPLE ITEM SHIPPING DISCOUNT: I will ship up to 4 cards for the single base shipping charge shown. For purchases of more than 4 cards, the shipping charge will increase by just a small increment for every 4 additional cards.

MOTHER--"Elsie, I think I shall make this dress just like the one you
have on."
ELSIE--"Why, mamma ! if I have two dresses alike people will think
I'm twins."
